According to Tom Perriello, the US Special Envoy for Sudan, the proposed peace talks regarding the ongoing conflict in Sudan will proceed as planned on Wednesday, even though the Sudanese military has not confirmed its participation. The talks, brokered by the United States and Saudi Arabia, have already secured the go-ahead of the Rapid Support Forces, the other party in the conflict. Beyond those, the talks are expected to have observers from the UN, African Union, Egypt, and the UAE in attendance. The Sudanese civil war, which began in April 2023, is already one of the world’s worst conflicts with thousands of deaths and the displacement of over 10.7 million people. The US will be hoping the talks can deliver some measure of peace in the embattled nation as failure to do so could lead to an even worse situation.
