Nigerian Billionaire Dangote Regains Africa’s Richest Man Title

According to Bloomberg’s billionaire real-time index, Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote has reclaimed the title of Africa’s richest man with a net worth of $13.7 billion, surpassing South African Johann Rupert’s $13.3 billion. Rupert briefly held the top spot on August 2 with a net worth of $13.6 billion, driven by strong performances in his diversified portfolio, including his luxury goods company Richemont. Despite a challenging year with significant losses and refinery issues, Dangote’s recent $144 million increase boosted his position. Meanwhile, Rupert’s valuation dropped by $334 million, bringing his year-to-date gain to $875 million. This shift underscores the volatility in Africa’s wealth rankings, with Dangote and Rupert closely matched, and the title of Africa’s richest person subject to change as market conditions fluctuate.
