N’djamena Rocked by Massive Explosions After Fire at Ammunition Depot

Koulamallah Abderaman, Chad’s Foreign Affairs Minister, revealed on Twitter on Tuesday that an overnight fire at a military ammunition depot in Goudji resulted in major explosions that rocked N’Djamena, the country’s capital. In a separate post on Facebook, the country’s president, Mahamat Idriss Deby, revealed that the fire caused significant damage to people and properties. He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, promising an investigation into the cause of the fire. Local media shared video footage that allegedly captures the incident. The video, unverified at the moment, showed a large fire and multiple explosions. The depot is located near the international airport in N’Djamena, a city with approximately 1.6 million residents, which is about 10% of Chad’s total population. The country was recently in the news after it held long awaited elections last month following three years of military rule.
