On Wednesday, Judith Suminwa Tuluka was sworn in as the Democratic Republic of Congo’s first female prime minister, marking a historic milestone for the nation with one of the lowest percentages of women in government. A former state minister for Planning and deputy coordinator of the Presidential Strategic Monitoring Council, Tuluka was sworn in with 54 other members of the DRC’s new government, which includes six deputy prime ministers and ten state ministers. During her swearing-in before the National Assembly, she acknowledged the symbolic significance of her appointment and the responsibility it entails. She also revealed her action programme, which she plans to pursue as prime minister, including the creation of 2.6 million jobs and the establishment of an academy for mathematics and artificial intelligence in Kinshasa, the resolution of national security issues, economic diversification, infrastructure, public services, and climate change.
