Deaf Mia Le Roux Crowned Miss South Africa in Competition’s First

Mia le Roux has made history as the first deaf woman to be crowned Miss South Africa in the pageantry’s decades of existence. Following her win, she expressed hope that her victory would inspire others who feel excluded from society to pursue their dreams. Le Roux, 28, was diagnosed with profound hearing loss at age one and uses a cochlear implant to aid her hearing. On the night, she expressed pride in her identity as a deaf South African woman, despite having experienced exclusion because of it. She also emphasized her mission to break boundaries like she’s done with her Miss South Africa win. Finally, she revealed her intention to, with her new platform, support those who are financially excluded or differently abled.
