Sudan’s military says it has recaptured Kulbus, a strategically vital town near the Chadian border. The development marks the army’s most significant battlefield success in western Darfur since it lost El-Fasher last year. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have controlled most of Darfur since taking El-Fasher, though army-aligned forces held onto pockets near the border. The military and its allied Joint Forces said they seized the town after fierce fighting with RSF, claiming to have inflicted heavy losses and captured weapons and military vehicles. The claims have not been independently verified, and the RSF has not responded. Kulbus sits along a key corridor linking the Chadian border with RSF-controlled El-Geneina, making it strategically important for supply routes.
