Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed more than 40 of its own employees over the past three years for alleged corruption and financial misconduct, Chairman Ola Olukoyede announced at a briefing in Abuja. Five of those fired now face prosecution, with cases being prepared against the rest. Olukoyede said maintaining internal integrity is essential to the agency’s anti-corruption mission, stressing that officers must have “clean hands” to credibly pursue graft cases. The chairman also highlighted the EFCC’s broader performance, revealing the agency recovered $923 million and achieved a 75% conviction rate between October 2023 and July 2026. During the period, the agency received 49,673 petitions, investigated 39,615 cases, filed 14,476 cases and secured 10,872 convictions.
