Madagascar Says President Escaped Third Assassination Attempt

Madagascar’s presidency says President Michael Randrianirina survived a third assassination attempt after security personnel intercepted two drones that reportedly followed his motorcade to his official residence in Antananarivo. Officials said another drone had also tracked the president’s vehicle the previous day before being driven away by his security team. While the drones reportedly escaped after flying at high altitude, authorities have launched an investigation to determine their origin and strengthen security around the president’s residence. The incidents come amid continued political uncertainty following Randrianirina’s rise to power after former President Andry Rajoelina was ousted during widespread youth-led protests over chronic water and electricity shortages. Despite the reported threats, Randrianirina has vowed to continue pursuing reforms and plans to hold general elections next year.
