Senior military leaders from eastern and western Libya met in Sirte to advance efforts to reunify the country’s divided armed forces after years of political and institutional fragmentation. The meeting brought together eastern Chief of Staff Khaled Haftar, western Chief of Staff Salah al-Din al-Namroush, members of the UN-backed Joint Military Commission, the Joint Security and Military Committee, and representatives from the UN Support Mission in Libya. While participants described the discussions as constructive, no specific agreements or timelines were announced. The talks form part of the military reunification process launched under the October 2020 ceasefire agreement, which aims to bridge divisions between forces aligned with Khalifa Haftar in the east and the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity.
