Lagos Fashion Week has clinched the Build a Waste-Free World award at this year’s Earthshot Prize, joining a select group of global environmental innovators honored at a ceremony in Rio de Janeiro. Launched by Prince William and David Attenborough in 2020, the award celebrates creative solutions to the planet’s toughest challenges. The Lagos-based initiative stood out for transforming one of the world’s most wasteful industries by pioneering a sustainable fashion economy. Other winners included Brazil’s re.green for AI-powered forest restoration, Bangladesh’s Friendship NGO for climate resilience, the city of Bogotá for clean air policies, and the UN High Seas Treaty for ocean protection. The glitzy event came just days before Brazil hosts the annual UN climate summit.
