Kinshasa Film Festival Showcases African Cinema

The 13th Kinshasa International Film Festival has opened in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, bringing together filmmakers and audiences to celebrate African storytelling and cinema. The five-day event features about 50 feature-length, medium-length, and short films from around 10 countries, alongside workshops, master classes, and discussion sessions designed to foster collaboration within the film industry. Festival founder Tshoper Kabambi said the event continues its mission of creating opportunities for filmmakers and movie lovers to connect and exchange ideas. Among the highlights is “Simon and Amos,” a feature by young Congolese director Riphin Kalala inspired by the biblical story of Joseph. The movie examines themes of slavery, forgiveness, and coexistence. Beyond screenings, the festival offers space for connection and shared learning among participants.
