Competitive darts is experiencing a remarkable revival in Kenya, driven by grassroots organizations like Sirua Darts that have built leagues and tournaments since 2022. The turning point came when veterinarian David Munyua became the first Kenyan to qualify for the PDC World Darts Championship in 2025, then stunned fans by winning his first-round match in London. The renewed momentum has attracted hundreds of players, with tournaments drawing competitors from across the country and creating new opportunities to compete internationally. The sport enjoyed an earlier golden era in the 1980s and 90s through television broadcasts before fading due to poor management and lost sponsorship. Despite recent progress, participants say securing sponsorship for international travel remains the biggest hurdle. Even so, Kenya’s growing darts community believes the sport is poised for sustained growth and could establish the country as Africa’s leading darts destination.
