Libreville has revived its Festival of Cultures after an eight-year hiatus, bringing together traditions, languages, rituals, crafts, and performances from across Gabon’s nine provinces. Held from August 21 to 23, the 15th edition centered on the theme “Reappropriation of our Cultural Values” and aimed at emphasizing the importance of preserving traditions for future generations. It featured artisans, cultural groups, and performers who showcased traditional crafts, storytelling, dances, and demonstrations to introduce younger generations to their cultural heritage, including objects and practices many had never witnessed firsthand. This year’s festival also looked beyond Gabon’s borders, welcoming Senegal as guest country of honor with a dedicated village showcasing Senegalese crafts, music, and clothing. Organizers say the event reflects a broader ambition to use culture as a bridge between communities and nations.
