Fortuna Mining Acquires Senegal Gold Project
Canadian mining company Fortuna Mining has acquired the Bambadji gold project in Senegal for $200 million, expanding its presence along the resource-rich Senegal-Mali Shear Zone. The property sits adjacent to Fortuna’s Diamba Sud Gold Project, which has an estimated 1.15 million ounces of gold reserves and is nearing a final investment decision. The company believes the Bambadji project could expand the Diamba Sud operation and has already approved an $8 million exploration budget for Bambadji. The acquisition comes as Fortuna reduces exposure to Burkina Faso, where it recently sold its Yaramoko mine amid rising security and regulatory risks—part of a broader reshaping of its West African portfolio as the region’s mining landscape grows more volatile.
