Industrial oil refinery infrastructure with Dangote branding in Nigeria, highlighting energy sector developments.
Nigeria’s oil refining sector recorded its strongest quarterly growth in years, expanding 43.94% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026 as the Dangote Petroleum Refinery increased production. National Bureau of Statistics data showed refining activity accelerating sharply, while the value of refining output more than doubled between the first and second quarters. The facility’s crude processing capacity grew to 700,000 barrels per day after expansion work was completed in February, enabling higher exports of refined products to Europe, Africa, and Asia. Domestic crude supplies to local refineries also improved substantially, reaching 53.7 million barrels during the quarter. Dangote accounted for most of the crude offered to domestic refiners, accepting 52.6 million barrels. The wider oil sector also strengthened, with crude production averaging 1.72 million bpd and sector growth reaching 7.31%.
