Côte d’Ivoire, the world’s top cocoa producer, is turbocharging efforts to diversify its economy with 11 new mining exploration permits for gold, cobalt, and copper. Announced by government spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly, the move underscores the country’s bid to capitalize on its political stability and attract global investors at a time when regional neighbors face turmoil and tighter resource controls. Eight of the permits will advance gold exploration projects, including operations by Resolute Exploration and Tieto Minéral, as national gold output surges from 10 tons in 2012 to a projected 62 tons in 2025. With ambitions to reach 100 tons by 2030, Côte d’Ivoire is positioning itself as a rising mining hub, signaling its intent to move beyond cocoa and into Africa’s mineral power league.
