Airtel Africa Picks London for Mobile Money IPO

Airtel Africa has chosen London for the planned listing of its mobile money unit, Airtel Money, in a deal expected to close in the second half of 2026 pending regulatory approval. The move is intended to unlock the value of one of Africa’s fastest-growing fintech platforms while providing access to an international investor base. The announcement accompanied strong first-quarter results, with Airtel Money’s annualized transaction value rising 51.5% to more than $245 billion and its customer base growing 23.3% to 56.5 million users. Across the group, revenue climbed to $1.85 billion, while net profit increased 27% to $198 million. Although Airtel expects continued growth in digital financial services, it warned that rising energy costs and geopolitical tensions could weigh on profitability despite ongoing cost-efficiency initiatives.
