African infrastructure investor Africa50 aims to grow its portfolio to $20 billion over the next five years. The Casablanca-based fund currently backs more than 30 projects across 32 countries on the continent, with a combined value of about $9 billion. The target reflects both the scale of Africa’s infrastructure needs and the growing role of private capital in addressing them. The continent receives only about 5% of global infrastructure investment, while its annual infrastructure investment gap stands at roughly $170 billion. Africa50’s key investments include power plants in Cameroon, Kenya, and Madagascar, as well as data center projects in Ghana and Kenya. Its expansion would position the fund to finance more projects in an environment where infrastructure development remains central to economic growth and connectivity.
