Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, has emerged as the center of the country’s emerging motor sport scene. Currently, the city’s motor sport hub is Mabushi, a dusty suburb of the city, where drifters come to show their craft. However, there are plans to go bigger, with a special racetrack under construction that will help aspiring racers practice and hone their skills. While Nigeria has a nascent motor sport sector, it has already notched some wins. Jamus Bashar Muhammad, one of the country’s most popular drifters, has won championships across the continent, including Kenya and Egypt. He believes the new racetrack, when completed, can help the country emerge as a force in motor sport. According to him, the new racetrack will be used to train young stars who want to pursue a Formula One career.
