Brick by Brick, a Sculpture at Storm King, by Way of Africa                             

A new work at Storm King, an outdoor sculpture park in New York’s Hudson Valley, is a crowning achievement for Martin Puryear and a reflection of Africa’s influence on him as a person and a creator. Entitled ‘Lookout,’ the organically shaped work is formed of bricks using the technique of Nubian vaulting, which was developed thousands of years ago in the Upper Nile delta.
