Our inaugural column begins with British-born fashionista, Arieta Mujay, who spent a part of her childhood in Nigeria. The fashion creative currently lives in London where she who works as a brand consultant, stylist and public relations manager. Read on to learn about what that experience was like, what she loves about London and what family members always ask her to bring back to Nigeria.Africa Style Daily: When did you first visit Nigeria?
Arieta Mujay: 1982, with my parents.
ASD: What were your impressions of it?
AM: It was scary. But then i moved to Nigeria for high school and got very settled.
ASD: Did you have a hard time connecting with family and friends while there?
AM: At first I did. My brother and i used to be referred to as "London Boy" and "London Girl" because I made the grand mistake of saying i was from London when asked what state i was from. This stayed with me for years! After i lost my British accent, it was a whole lot easier, and then i became Omo Naija ("child of Nigeria")!
