The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has suspended its 21-month visa ban on Nigerians and introduced new digital verification rules for those seeking visas. Nigeria’s Information Minister, Mohammed Idris, announced the development on Monday. He stated that the ban, in place since October 2022, was lifted after “mutually beneficial negotiations” between both governments. He noted there are new conditions that prospective Nigerian visitors must abide by. For instance, travelers must submit documents proving their identity and travel history to generate a verification number for visa applications. The ban stemmed from allegations of improper conduct and visa rule circumventions. The UAE’s decision to lift the visa ban follows a May announcement that it will restart daily flights between Lagos and Dubai in October.
