Spaniard Trampled to Death During South Africa Tour

A Spanish tourist was trampled to death by elephants at Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa after he left his vehicle to take photos, according to local authorities. The tourist, aged 43, was in the company of his fiancée and two other women, who remained unharmed. The elephant herd included young calves. According to experts, adult elephants are fiercely protective of their young and can become aggressive in response to a perceived threat, which was likely the case when the tourist moved closer. Piet Nel, acting chief conservation officer for the North West Parks and Tourism Board, emphasized that visitors are warned not to leave their vehicles during their tour of the park, stating that many do not understand that parks are wild areas. This incident follows similar fatal elephant attacks on two American tourists in Zambia earlier this year.
