“Home Is Here,” Says Kemi Badenoch as She Distances Herself from Nigerian Identity

1

UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has said that even though she is Nigerian by ancestry, she does not consider herself Nigerian by identity. Badenoch was born in London but raised in Nigeria and the US. Speaking on the Rosebud podcast, she stated that she has not renewed her Nigerian passport in 20 years and considers Britain her true home. The Tory leader, who returned to the UK at 16 due to Nigeria’s political and economic turmoil, described her British citizenship as a “marvel,” crediting it with offering opportunities she felt Nigeria couldn’t provide. While she maintains family ties to Nigeria, Badenoch emphasized that her allegiance lies with her British-based family and the Conservative Party.
