Siemens Mobility is leading the development of a groundbreaking 1,243-mile high-speed rail network across Africa, connecting 60 cities. The project’s first phase—the 410-mile Green Line in Egypt—will run from Ain Sokhna to Marsa Matrouh via Cairo and Alexandria. Each eight-car Velaro train will carry up to 481 passengers in standard, business, and restaurant compartments, designed to withstand desert conditions with sealed gaps and advanced air filters. Construction has made significant headway, particularly at the New Capital Station depot, where over 11 million cubic meters of soil have been excavated. The railway promises to transform regional travel and economic connectivity across Africa.
