The first must-see concert of the year is upon us, hosted by my organization, HIP HOP SAVES LIVES!
Headlining the show is Blitz the Ambassador, from Ghana, along with Zuzuka Ponderosa, from Brazil; House of Waters, a Brooklyn-based band with a global sound; Adeline from Paris, and Nomadic Massive, from Montreal.
Blitz the Ambassador was born Samuel Bazawule in Accra, Ghana, and perfected his MC skills in Brooklyn. He's fused the two worlds through his music on his latest release, Native Sun. Rolling Stone magazine in Germany says, "It sounds like the future of African music."
Blitz holds strong onto his African blood and it bleeds on every track. He stated when he first came to New York, he was concerned more about fitting rather than standing out. Native Sun stands out like a match in a cave. After a decade in America, he found his true self and is prepared to shine his light. Blitz says, "Africans especially need to tell their own stories without having to go through the filter, and that's what encourages me to push forward".
Saturday's show is brought to you by Embassy MVMT, and tickets are only $15. The show takes place at Webster Hall at 7 p.m. and tickets are available at websterhall.com.
