(Editor's Note: The Brotherhood/Sister Sol, a non-profit organization based in Harlem, New York, is bringing a group of New York's youth to Ghana for the summer. Members of the organization will pen posts for Africa.com during the trip!)
Being in Ghana has started off just as I have expected. The people are welcoming, and I feel very excited to be here. Starting off great assures me that this trip will only get better. My plan is to absorb as much knowledge and information as I can during my stay here. This opportunity does not come often, so I will take advantage of every learning moment I get. Visiting the W.E.B Dubois Center (which is actually the home he lived in with his wife for two years before his death) and the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park have opened my mind and my my heart to understanding the work of great leaders and educators throughout the African Diaspora. My goal in Ghana is to reconnect with my roots here on the African continent. Hopefully I will be able to return to Africa and visit the country my family is from: Nigeria. This month will be an inspiring month filled with memorable possibilities.
