On 18 Feb 2010, a coup removed President Mamadou Tandja. Djibo Salou, the coup leader and chairman of the Supreme Council for the Restoration of Democracy, installed himself as President, suspended the Constitution, and dissolved the Cabinet, promising that elections would be held following a transitional period of unspecified duration. On 19 Feb 2010, Salou appointed Mahamadou Danda as Prime Minister.
