My Ghana

Those three years were the inspiration for my debut novel Powder Necklace, which details my protagonist's baptism into Ghanaian culture.

A Window into the Generosity of the Mauritanian People

In August 2006, my girlfriend and I went on a road trip to Nouadhibou, Mauritania's main port located 210 miles north of Nouakchott, the country's capital. At the time, I was working on an electoral assistance program to help local stakeholders organize free and competitive elections. The program was quite intense; I was therefore looking forward to a weekend getaway.
