| Question: | What is overlanding? |
| Answer: | Overlanding is a very popular type of tourism throughout Africa. Travelers board a specially equipped bus with a driver and small crew for anywhere from one week to over a month and visit sites along various routes in Africa. Along the way the passengers usually camp in the evenings or stay at low-budget hotels. They are also often involved in cooking meals as a way to keep the cost of the trip down (for both the tour operator and the paying traveler). The trip itineraries usually include multiple countries in Africa and you are able to rapidly cover much more ground than you would if you were traveling independently and relying on public transportation. There are many different kinds of overland trips available and it is a good option for travelers looking for a relatively inexpensive and safe way to see a lot of Africa. Some tours have a more cultural orientation while others are more focused on adventure and wildlife. Overlanding is generally popular amongst younger crowed, though specialized tours for older or solo travelers also exist. |
