FAQ Number: 39
Question:

What are the necessary vaccinations for Africa?

Answer: The vaccinations that you will need depend on the country to which you are traveling. The most commonly recommended vaccinations are for Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, and Polio. The Meningitis vaccination is recommended for a handful of countries. The Rabies vaccine is recommended for travelers who will be spending a significant amount of time outdoors (especially in a rural area), travelers who have a high occupational risk (veterinarians), and for children who are more likely to approach and play with animals. However, you should consult the Center for Disease Control's website approximately two months before your departure for the most up-to-date vaccination suggestions and health warnings . In order to allow sufficient time for your vaccinations, make an appointment with your doctor 4-6 weeks before you travel.
