Women | Tools | Technology: Building Opportunities & Economic Power, is an innovative online Challenge that identified transformative solutions for promoting women’s economic advancement through technology, with a focus on women from developing countries. Sponsored by Ashoka’s Changemakers and ExxonMobil in partnership with the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), the Challenge sourced 268 entries from 67 countries. Efforts are part of ExxonMobil’s Women’s Economic Opportunity Initiative, which has invested over $32M since its launch in 2005.
On June 2, ten finalists were chosen by an expert panel of judges. From now until June 16, anyone can vote on their three favorite finalists at Changemakers.com/TechnologyWomen. The winners will be announced June 23 and will be invited to participate in collaboration workshops later this year.
Changemakers also invites you to a series of interviews with three women whose careers and public presence embody the themes represented in the Women | Tools | Technology Challenge. The mavens will discuss what inspires them to take on the challenge and responsibility of becoming influencers in the once male dominated fields of media and technology. Interviews will be conducted with the following women:
· Leslie Harris, President and CEO, Center for Democracy & Technology (June 14th)
· Laurel Touby, Founder, Mediabistro.com (June 15th)
· Sheila Krumholz, Executive Director, Center for Responsive Politics (June 16th)
Audio recordings of each interview will be posted to www.changemakers.com around 5pm EDT June 14, 15 and 16.
