Live With No Regrets

We are often raised with the notion that we should live with no regrets, that we should enjoy and embrace each moment of our lives. However, in today’s society, it seems like we also always told to plan ahead, to hurry up in life, and to keep going without ever really meditating and taking a moment to live.

Frankly, I admit that before traveling to Egypt and South Africa, I really didn’t know within my heart what it meant to just breathe, to relax, and to really embrace living in the

moment. I never really experienced this, because I never had a moment outside of my element in which I could really just sit back and reflect on the beauty and the people around me. I was used to going, going, going.

Yet, I really got a glimpse of what it meant to “live in the moment” when I randomly decided to take a trip to Egypt. When I was visiting one of my best friends in Italy, we talked about going to Egypt, but I thought it was just a joke. I never really thought that weeks later I would actually be buying a plane ticket to venture with her and our other friends in Egypt. But I took a risk….

It was a risk that I knew I would never get the chance to take again. I look back at the moment when I had to make a choice of whether to go or not to go, and I am so thankful and happy that I took a risk.

Even with South Africa, I never actually thought I would go. I had talked about it with my professor and my friends, but I never actually imagined that it would something I would really do. Then, one day I just made up my mind that I was going to go, that I was going to take a risk and experience something that really might change the course of my life—and I bought my plane ticket to go. The experience truly changed the course of my life and how I live it.

Now, as I reflect on each of these life experiences, I can tell you that it is so important for us to live with no regrets and to live in the moment. It is so pivotal for us to take chances and to be open to every opportunity that may come to us in life. We never know how taking one route or meeting one person will change us. Therefore, we have to be willing to travel and to experience life completely outside of our culture and our element.

I feel like I never really enjoyed life’s precious gifts until I traveled to Egypt and South Africa. The magnificence of the world and the kindness and generosity of people have touched my life in ways that are indescribable. I know that had I not gone to these different countries, which are often scrutinized by the media, I would never have felt these feelings.

The cultures in Egypt and South Africa instilled in me the importance of awakening to living in the moment and living with no regrets. After all, this life is truly an experience. We should be open to it and value the precious possibilities that can come from taking risks and taking adventures to learn something about ourselves.

In retrospect, I never felt more alive than when I traveled within South Africa and Egypt. I felt like I was partaking in on experiences that I only dreamed of taking. I was venturing through strange lands, meeting countless new people, and embracing other cultures. These experiences awakened me and also humbled me at the same time. From all of my travel experiences, especially to Egypt and South Africa, I was completely dumbfounded and in awe. Indeed, I was completely changed, and moved to live in the moment without regrets on each step of my journey in this world.

I hope you will now do the same.
