Audrey Hepburn once said that “A quality education has the power to transform societies in a single generation, provide children with the protection they need from the hazards of poverty, labor exploitation and disease, and give them the knowledge, skills, and confidence to reach their full potential.”
The Visão Foundation strongly believes in the right of every child to receive a quality education. Visão is a non-profit organization that empowers and enriches the lives of disadvantaged youth in Sierra Leone through the delivery of quality education. Since its inception in 2005, the organization has been working tirelessly to promote access to a quality education for youth in Sierra Leone. We believe that a quality education is extremely vital to the development of communities and the eradication of poverty. The name Visão is a Portuguese word meaning vision, and our vision is for a better Sierra Leone.
From 1991 to 2002, Sierra Leone w
as ravaged by an 11-year civil war that pushed the country decades back. All areas of development were derailed and many schools were destroyed, leaving children with meager facilities to continue their education. Although schools are functioning, many students in Sierra Leone have fallen far below their grade standard. To address this issue, the organization established a free academic and enrichment program for youth between the ages of 11-17 called Camp Visão.
Camp Visão brings together students from various underserved schools and allows 
them to explore, be challenged, and learn according to their learning needs and levels, all at their own pace. Participants receive supplemental support to strengthen their core foundational skills in Math, Reading and Writing, and are taught essential life- skills such as money-management, problem solving, and creative thinking. Additionally, the program provides annual scholarships to help lessen the financial burdens of students and their families and to empower them to achieve their educational goals.
