Events: Nigerian Healthcare Foundation Gala in Newark, New Jersey—Saturday, April 14

The opportunity to have access to quality healthcare is often taken for granted. In rural Nigeria, where access to basics such as healthcare, education, and proper hygiene options are limited or severely restricted, thousands of people are facing life-threatening illnesses. The Nigerian Healthcare Foundation (NHF) exists to highlight the urgency of healthcare issues in Nigeria and to focus on bringing necessary healthcare relief to the most populous country in Africa. NHF’s mission remains to support and conduct medical services; combat the spread of disease and unnecessary death; and, to prevent community deterioration by improving healthcare conditions within the Nigerian population in Afric

a.

Since 2001, NHF’s dedication to their mission combined with the support of their donors, has allowed them to conduct an annual two-week medical mission to deliver critically needed health care and education. At their temporary clinic in Nigeria they have seen up to 400 patients a day, 95% of which come from remote areas and would never have otherwise received medical attention. To date, they have seen over 10,000 patients and touched countless lives with educational programs.

On April 14, 2012, the Nigerian Healthcare Foundation will host the 7th Annual Faces of Hope Gala at the Newark Club in Newark, New Jersey. This is the primary fundraiser to support the organization: saving lives in isolated and desperate rural areas of Nigeria.

“This event serves as the primary means of supporting the mission of NHF and our initiative in Nigeria”, says Ijeoma Obilo, executive director of the Nigerian Healthcare Foundation. “We wouldn’t be able to continue the great work that we do without this gala and our gracious sponsors.”

Honorees for the 7th Annual Faces of Hope Gala include: Public Sector Leadership Award Honoree – H.E. Professor U. Joy Ogwu, Ambassador and Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations; Community Action Award Honoree – Distinguished Nigerian Physicians of Tomorrow; and Corporate Philanthropy Award Honoree: Arik Air International.

Sponsors for this year’s Faces of Hope Gala include HackensackUMC, the Dolores Turco Foundation, Africa.com, NouriShea, Shea Radiance, IZZE, Green Mountain Coffee, the Art of Shaving, and Popchips.
