Africa Foundation held the Art for Africa Gala Dinner and Auction Preview at Sotheby’s in New York City on October 12. The mistress of ceremonies was Emmy Award-winning actress Archie Panjabi from The Good Wife. Guests included Matt Czuchry; Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and his wife Mary; Lola Ogunnaike; Nina Griscom; Cristina Cuomo; Enyinne Onwunwanne; Mia Morgan; Jennifer Creel; Africa.com CEO Teresa Clarke, and artists Peter Beard, Kehinde Wiley, Andres Serrano, Julian Lethbridge, Nan Goldin, Hunt Slonem, Caio Fonseca, E.V. Day, Mary Sibande, Shinique Smith, and more.
Guests enjoyed a preview of 52 works from leading contemporary artists during cocktails followed by a dance performance choreographed by Maija Garcia (of Fela! fame) and a seated dinner. Cocody Productions produced the music for the evening, with director Jake Bright and Chad Harper coordinating an African DJ mix and performance by Samite from Uganda. Patrick McMullan himself covered the event, navigating Sotheby’s event space with his camera and charm.
The gala dinner kicked off a series of events that will begin on November 12 thru the 17th culminating with the Art for Africa auction on November 17. The press preview will be held November 14 and the exhibition will be from November 12 to November 17. All events will take place at Sotheby’s in New York City. Africa Foundation has transformed the lives of Africa’s rural people through Education, Health Care and facilitating Income Generating Activities.
