Sunday, July 25, 2010Congrats to Africa.com's Ambassador Jendayi Frazer on Receiving One of Liberia's Highest Honors

Ambassador Frazer, a leading architect of U.S.-Africa policy over the last decade, is a member of the Africa.com Board of Advisors as well as a featured blogger. She is also Carnegie Mellon University’s distinguished service professor.The Dame Grand Commander in the Humane Order of African Redemption was presented to Ambassador Frazer for her exemplary humanitarian work, specifically for her work in the U.S. government to end Liberia's civil war and restore peace and democracy to the country. She received the award, one of the most prestigious honors that the president can bestow, as part of Liberia's 163rd Independence Day celebration on July 21.
"I am deeply humbled to receive this honor as a daughter of Africa in the diaspora from President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf," said Ambassador Frazer.
Acknowledging the extraordinary honor paid to the Ambassador, Africa.com Chairman and CEO Teresa Clarke said, “Ambassador Frazer has served the United States and the African continent nobly and effectively. We are proud to have a woman of her caliber on our Africa.com Board of Advisors. Her wisdom and experience are vitally important to our mission of changing the way the world sees Africa.”
From 2001 to 2004, Dr. Frazer served under President George W. Bush as the special assistant and senior director for Africa. In 2004, she became the first American woman ambassador to South Africa, and from 2005 to 2009 she was the assistant secretary of state for African Affairs. In those roles, Dr. Frazer was instrumental in the decisions to establish the $15 billion President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and the Millennium Challenge Account that committed $3.2 billion to well-governed African countries by 2008. She also designed the policies for ending wars in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Burundi.
