Hailing from Brooklyn, the Brown Rice Family, a multi-cultural world music and roots band is set to release its debut album, "Brown Rice Radio Station." The date is set for this coming Friday, December 2nd, at 7 p.m. at the Players Club in New York City.Brown Rice Family is an eight-piece band whose members span from across the globe, including members from Japan, Nigeria, Haiti, South Africa, Jamaica, and New York. Each of the members brings his own story and experiences to the band, such as Amu, a Nigerian-born musician who first got into music as a producer. Feeling confined by the technological aspects of simply making beats in a studio, Amu yearned to perform a more integral, wholesome style of music. While learning how to play bass, Amu was asked by fellow classmates to fill in for a missing band member of a local group—the rest is history.
Brown Rice Family has been playing venues in New York for years. Their sounds is very get-up-and-dance with lots of African drums, Caribbean rhythms, hints of hip-hop, and reggae. The group boasts a live horn section, and they have a strong following of regulars, so come early to assure available space. Enjoy the pre-show cocktail party with sounds by Cocody Productions.
