by Ziara Safaris From my professional experience, I know that the way to go about booking a personal and unique safari is to imagine your overall experience and what you’d most like from it. You can then narrow down your options. This can include deciding on how you’d like to travel, letting your driver know of an landmarks you’d like to see en-route (e.g. the great rift valley), pre-choosing your accommodation types (e.g. lodges, hotels or tented camps), and the most important for many safari goers; deciding on which type of wildlife you would most like to see. There are many different types of safari tours you can take depending on your budget and the kind of adventure you want to experience.

Vehicle safari – This is the most common type of tour that most safari goers will take for their first African adventure. You will be driven round the reserve in a large vehicle, usually a 4x4 or a converted minibus. Most tour operators provide a guide as well as a driver. These guides are usually experts at spotting animal shapes in the distance.

Hot air balloon safari – Observing the scenery and wildlife from great heights, this is the ultimate safari experience. Although the costs of a balloon safari are very high-end, it is said to be an unforgettable journey that often includes sipping champagne whilst soaring over the reserve and taking in the breath taking aerial view of the landscape at a nice steady pace.

Boating safari – Reserves that have large lakes with high densities of wildlife may offer boating safaris. You will weave in-between the lakes vegetation and by-pass wildlife up close such as hippos in a small boat like a canoe or a kayak.
The safari destination best suited to you depends entirely on exactly what you want to see. Each reserve has its own unique personality, landscapes, terrain and wildlife varieties.

Masai Mara National Reserve – The Masai Mara is the greatest reserve in Kenya to see a large density of wildlife in such a small area. If seeing the ‘big five’ is top of your list, then this is definitely the reserve for you.

Amboseli National Park – Amboseli is not only famous for its elephants that exist in a population of over one thousand, but also for the spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro which over-shadows the park.

Lake Nakuru National Park – Lake Nakuru is home to over four hundred different species of bird, including the flamingo, which can be seen in numbers of over a million feeding upon the algae that lines the lake, this gives Lake Nakuru the nickname the ‘sea of pink’.
If you still can’t decide on an itinerary for your safari, then contact Ziara Safaris and let them know exactly what kind of experience you are seeking. Ziara can put together custom Kenya safaris according to specific requests and requirements which ultimately creates a tailor suited, private and unique safari experience.
