Us folks here at Africa.com didn’t have to travel far to enjoy the Network Journal’s 25 Influential Black Women in Business awards ceremony: held at the New York Marriot Marquis hotel in Times Square, it was only a block away for us—easy travel for a great honor.
Our CEO, Teresa Clarke, was named as one of the 25 impressive women who won awards yesterday (here’s the full list of awardees), and she was in very good company. Included among the other winners were Jannette Dates, dean of the School of Communications at Howard University; Veronica McLymont, director of food and nutrition services at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and Annette Kelton, managing director and associate general counsel at Goldman Sachs.
Just as much as Teresa was honored by the award, so were we: since our launch in February 2010, Africa.com’s enjoyed monthly gains across many boards, including site traffic and social media followers on Facebook and Twitter. We’re working to improve the design of our site, we’re making incredible site partners along the way (including our page celebrating our relationship with the Council on Foreign Relations and Foreign Affairs), and we’ve got plenty more exciting projects on our plate as we head towards the spring and summer.
We thank the Network Journal for honoring Teresa and, indirectly, honoring Africa.com as well.
