Africa Fashion Week in New York City: Re-cap

African fashion has come a long way from the traditional cloth and head ties. Last month, New York City was treated to a wonderful event in the form of Africa Fashion Week (from July 14th to the 16th), presented by Adiree Fashion Agency.

In its second year, the three-day extravaganza drew New Yorkers in to bear witness to an array of designs by some of the finest talent from Africa and the Diaspora. The invite only event provided a front row seat to some of the most playful, sexy, stylish, and inventive ensembles from designers like Bill Witherspoon, Danielle Martin, Nadir Tati, Firkirte Addis, Kozby World, and many others.

Over the three days there were over 30 designers featured at the show. It was truly a top notch well put together event. DJ “Put On” had the crowd nodding their heads in the city’s downtown “Broad Street Ballroom” venue with a mixture of various tunes to keep everyone enjoying the performance.

There were a variety of themes on display from noticeably “African-inspired” to new-age fashion to more traditional formal and casual attire. The designers really impressed everyone in attendance. And the models were certainly working the runway. From the smooth men to the divas who owned the catwalk, it was quite the spectacle to enjoy. However, words can only go so far. We’ll let our camera do the rest of the talking (click below for larger photos), but make sure to be there next year to witness what will surely be an another amazing event brought to you by Adiree and the Africa Fashion Week in New York crew.
